Tax Planning and Consulting

Working on next year's tax bill during this year, while there is still time to change the outcome.

Planning happens months before a return is due

Filing a return reports what already happened. Planning happens earlier, while decisions can still change the number. For someone self employed or under withheld from a paycheck, that usually starts with quarterly estimated payments sized to actual income rather than a guess. For a business owner, it can mean comparing an LLC against an S-Corp election, since electing S-Corp status can reduce self employment tax once profit reaches a meaningful point, though it also adds payroll and filing requirements that have to be weighed against the savings. Timing matters too. When you recognize income, when you make a large purchase, and when you sell an asset can each shift what you owe, and those are decisions that only work if they are made before the year closes, not after.

How a planning conversation starts

I do not plan around a guess. A planning conversation starts with time spent learning the actual details of your income, your business structure, and what changed since last year, because a strategy that works for one situation can cost another person money. From there I look at estimated payments, entity structure, and timing decisions with you, and revisit them as the year moves along rather than only once.

Established in 2010, I have spent the years since working through self employment income, entity elections and estimated payments for clients across Texas, as a CPA and an IRS Enrolled Agent. Call (210) 842-8197.

Talk before the year closes, not after

The earlier a planning conversation happens, the more options are still open. Call the office or send details through the contact page to set up a free consultation.
