Alamo Heights, Texas · established 2010
A CPA and an Enrolled Agent, in one office.
Most practices hold one credential. Mateo E. Jungman holds both, which means the person who prepares your return is also licensed to represent you in front of the IRS, in all fifty states.

What the two licences actually mean
These are not adjectives. Each one is a fact you can check before you hand anybody your records.

CPA, EA, or both
The difference is who is allowed to argue.
A CPA licence comes from a state board and covers accounting practice. An Enrolled Agent licence comes from the IRS and covers representation: audits, collections, appeals, in every state. Preparers who hold neither can file your return and then can do nothing at all when a notice arrives. I hold both, so the same person who knows your file is the person who answers for it.
What the practice does
Three kinds of work, and they run into each other.
The planning changes the return. The return decides what the IRS asks about. The structure underneath sets what any of it can claim. It is one practice because it is one conversation.
The return, prepared properly
Preparation and filing for individuals and businesses, with the planning that decides what the return says long before it is due.
Someone licensed to speak for you
An Enrolled Agent licence is granted by the IRS and permits representation in all fifty states. Audits, notices, collections and appeals stop being your correspondence and become mine.
The structure underneath it
How the business is formed, what it can claim, and what the state of Texas wants from it. Work that changes the number before the return is written.
No state income tax is not the whole story
Texas asks for less. It still asks.
There is no state income tax here, which is the part everyone knows. The part that catches people is franchise tax, where many entities have to file an annual report even in a year they owe nothing, and Comptroller sales tax on top of it. Missing a filing you did not owe money on is still a missed filing.

The practice is one person
You will be dealing with me.
This is a locally and family owned practice, open since 2010, with over fifteen years behind it. There is no account manager and no handoff to a junior in March. The person you talk to at the consultation is the person who prepares the return and the person who answers the notice.
My own rule of thumb: try not to plan your tax future until a qualified professional has spent some time with you, learning the details of your situation. That is what the first meeting is for, and it is free.
How working together goes
You know the price before any work starts.
A free consultation
We go through your situation properly. No charge, in person on Broadway or by video anywhere in Texas.
A price before the work
You get the cost up front, based on what your return actually involves. Not a surprise on delivery.
The work, and the record
Prepared, filed, and documented so that if anyone asks about it later, there is an answer ready.

Bring last year’s return, or bring nothing and just describe the situation. You will leave knowing what I would do and what it costs.
