Before you call

The questions people actually ask.

These come from real conversations at the Broadway office, not a generic list. Anything you do not see here, ask directly. Consultations are free.

Credentials and representation

What the two licences let me do.

An Enrolled Agent is a tax professional licensed federally by the IRS, authorised to represent taxpayers in audits, collections and appeals. A CPA licence is granted by a state board and covers accounting practice more broadly. I hold both, so I can prepare the return and then stand in front of the IRS about it.

Yes. As an Enrolled Agent I can represent clients in all 50 states before the IRS, for audits, payment plans and disputes. You do not have to deal with them directly.

Yes. We get clients caught up on prior year returns and work with the IRS to minimise penalties. Coming forward on your own terms is almost always better than waiting for them to find you.

Send it over as soon as it arrives. Most notices have a response window, and the options narrow once it closes. I will read it, tell you what it actually says, and respond on your behalf.

In many cases yes, through installment agreements, offers in compromise or penalty abatement. Which one fits depends on the balance, your income and why the debt arose.

Texas specifics

No state income tax is not the whole story.

No. Texas has no state income tax. You may still have obligations though, including franchise tax if you run a business, and sales tax filings with the Texas Comptroller.

The franchise tax applies to most businesses operating in Texas. Even when no tax is owed, many entities are still required to file an annual report, which is the part people miss.

It depends on your income and what you want the business to do. An S-Corp election can reduce self employment tax once profit reaches a certain level, but it adds payroll and filing obligations. We work the numbers for your situation before you change anything.

Getting started

What to bring and how it begins.

Usually W-2s and 1099s, business income and expense records, mortgage interest statements, investment and crypto reports, and your prior year return. If you are missing something, we can often reconstruct it.

Yes. We work with clients across Texas remotely, using secure document upload and video consultation. In person at the Broadway office is always available too.

It depends on complexity. Individual returns are typically lower cost, while business or multi income returns vary. You get the price before any work starts, not after.

Book a consultation, which is free. We go through your situation, I tell you what I would do and what it costs, and you decide from there.

Still have a question

Ask it at the free consultation.

In person on Broadway or by video anywhere in Texas. No charge, and no obligation.
